More Revisions to "Corporate Fraud" and Treasury Secretary Spreads

 

Revised "Corporate Fraud" Feature

How cool is it that I was able to find these great sketches of the corporate fraud guys? A google image search led me to an artists' blog.

Revised "Not Easy Going Green" Opener

I spread the headline across the image and the white space, as suggested in class. Not sure that I'm 100% happy with it, but it's better than anything I had before.

Managed to get this done over the weekend; hope to have some time tomorrow at work to tinker with the two other features.

Adjusting Text Type

I took the text type down from 9.4 points to 9.2 points to help avoid the rivers that were showing up in the 3-column department layouts. Anything smaller than 9.2 left me feeling that the type was fading out and losing authority.

I simplified the treatment of the headline a bit, and brought the subhead lower. On the second spread I brought the graphics together.

One More Change to Department Template

I feel as if I can go on and on with the template and still not be completely happy ... sigh. I've been tinkering with it and made one more change -- subhead is now all caps, Univers condensed, 14.5 pt. 

Need to move on to other things now....

Retooling the Department Template

Given the comments in class, I decided to rework the department template a bit (and not get distracted by any art on the page). 

• Lightened up the headline by going to Univers light (I still want something in the Univers family for the head). 
  
• Changed the subhead and the drop cap from Caslon to Univers light condensed. 
  
• Made the paragraph headings all cap, Univers bold, 7.5 pt.
  
• Made the folios less bold and less condensed.
  

I think it's becoming cleaner, but maybe more can be done with it.
